Setting
The setting of this book I Am the Messenger is in a significantly large city with suburbs, bad parts of the town, and wealthy parts of town. Zusak had to make the setting what it is or else Ed couldn't have been a taxi driver since we don't usually provide taxi services to small cities. Ed being a taxi driver was a major part of the story so the setting had to fit Ed's occupation. With that the city had to have a variety of parts of the town so Ed could help a lot of different kinds of people. Like the priest ,Thomas O'Reilly, having trouble getting people into his run-down church and helping Sofie to just be confident enough to run barefoot. Zusak made the city with a lot of diverse living conditions so he could create a lot of different kinds of people and living conditions.
